It's our birthday! x̆ɑst sx̆əx̆əlxt ɑn kʷ kuləm!
We've officially survived a year. We are so thankful for the love and support that we've had on this journey and can't wait to continue to serve our community in new, fun ways.
Cheers to many more to come!
As part of our birthday week celebration, we wanted to take the opportunity to highlight our staff and board members!
The first person we're excited to introduce is our Board Chairwoman, Ms. Em, or spaxʷawlx!
Ms. Emily Abrahamson was born and raised in New Mexico and is an enrolled member of the Pueblo of Isleta. She currently resides in Omak, WA on the Colville Indian Reservation and is a seasoned and certified First People's Language, Culture, & Oral Traditions teacher in the State of Washington. Amazingly, she is one of the first people in the State of Washington to teach a Native Language class in a public school.
In the early 1990's, she helped to establish the pilot program for the certification of teachers of First Peoples' languages/culture to contribute to the recovery, revitalization, and promotion of First Peoples' languages and provide the opportunity for tribal children to learn the language while at school, while promoting cultural sensitivity to all students.
Ms. Abrahamson is recently retired after serving for 32 years in the Omak School District as a Salish teacher, among many other roles. Aboriginal Outfitters is thrilled and honored to have her as a integral part of the leadership team.
(P.S. She's sporting our "It's Up To Us" woman's T in the picture above, which is part of our anniversary sale on the website!)
